It's not even Valentine's Day yet but the St. Patrick's Day horses are here! This guy was super fun to paint and will be going up on eBay over the next day or so. His pony brother is in the works as well.
Keep warm everyone!

Here's the place to find out what's on my painting table, what's happening around the farm, and what's coming up next!
Not outside, not even close! We had another virtual snow day today and got another 3 inches of powdery snow on top of what was here to begin with. I haven't even gotten to mess around much in the studio today but everyone else is in bed so now's the time! It's not even Valentine's Day yet but the St. Patrick's Day horses are here! This guy was super fun to paint and will be going up on eBay over the next day or so. His pony brother is in the works as well. These two were just for fun and came out of one of those suncatcher kits. My daughter and I painted together Sunday afternoon. I got to snap a picture of them as the sun set this evening. This guy was also photo worthy today. He was all over the yard this afternoon digging the boring beetles out of the ash trees. These are such cool birds! At one point there were 2 of them going at the same tree for more than 10 minutes.
Keep warm everyone!

There was a little bit of everything today: a trip to the emergency vet around midnight with Sam (he's fine!), a cake, a St. Patrick's Day themed horse, LOTS of snow moving, work on my "Sea" Horse, firewood hauling, a movie watch part on Google Meet and obviously a blog entry! Tomorrow we're supposed to get another 6-8 inches of snow so we're pretty much all prepared for that. I'm hoping to get a lot of studio time in as a consolation prize because I'm afraid the roads may not be clean enough for traveling down for snow play. We'll see!
Keep warm, be safe everyone! Big Mare gave some serious consideration to rolling this afternoon but when she just about buried her face and hadn't found the ground yet she decided against it. We walked around outside the paddock, where it was plowed and then she was thrilled to go back in. . . Can't you just feel her enthusiasm?! Love this horse!
Off to paint now that the plowing and shoveling is done for the day. I'm hoping to be able to finish Brande Bun tonight. Be Safe and Keep Warm Everyone! The girls were being silly in the backyard today even though it was snowing so hard I could barely get a picture of them! After moving snow for most of the day, just to move it again tomorrow, I got a few hours of studio time in while the snow continued to fall and the wind howled outside. Seriously, there is a spot the wind howls in every corner of this house! Anyway, here's what was accomplished: I've been struggling with a solid theme for this horse and I think I've finally firmed one up- he's going to be a "Sea Horse." That's as far as I got- there is a starfish on one side of his mane, some sea weed on the other side and scales on his butt. There will be more sea weed and shells but I'm not sure how far I'm taking this one. If I had to guess I'd say just a little bit too far! The little Brande Bun resin is getting some pretty copper colors on her. I'm like the way she's coming out so far. Tomorrow will be some shading and then we're on to detail work from there. She *might* even be done in time to be listed for the weekend- shoot me an e-mail ahead of time if you think she needs to come live in your stable! Last but not least is Emily's newest commission horse. He's going to be a bay leopard appaloosa. So far he's got some black points and spots are starting to happen.
Yesterday after the flurries finally organized themselves it started to snow for real. We only got a few inches over night but since this morning it's been fierce outside. We're getting a few inches an hour and the snow's falling so heavily I can't see the horses in the barn sometimes. The dogs are in their glory! For a southern boy, Samuel LOVES the cold white stuff. Nora, of course, just wants to play no matter what the weather is. Nighthawk and I had a "discussion" this morning about her wearing her snowflake blanket going forward this winter. I blanketed both the girls last week when our wind chills/real feel temperatures were below zero. We were all fine with that for the weekend until today. I caught her trying to eat the blanket off her chest on several occasions before I went out to feed them breakfast. When I went out there she continued to arch her neck and remove stitches and pull at the clips. I explained that it was going to be snowy and windy ALL day and ALL night and that she should continue to wear the blanket. With that she bit the clip, stared right at me and she doesn't have to wear her blanket anymore. Now that we've got a handle on the snow, so far at least, there is going to be some painting happening in the studio. Today is the first day of NaMoPaiMo but I don't think I'll be touching the Adios model since he needs another coat or two of primer. There's a little resin that I've got my sights set on wrapping up this week anyway!
Stay safe and stay warm everyone! |
