Here's the place to find out what's on my painting table, what's happening around the farm, and what's coming up next!
Besides having 3 early dismissal days, one of which I got to spend hanging out with the parents of some of my wonderful kids this year, my favorite part of the week was getting to see an old friend. Thanksgiving was wonderful with both families. For once, we didn't feel rushed to get anywhere, eat anywhere, leave or go onto the next place. The timing worked out beautifully! Afterwards I got home and found a TON of shipping notifications in my e-mail INBOX. That new Collector's Club model was set to arrive this afternoon- and she did! She's very pretty, but not for me. I was hoping for the Florentine model but perhaps I'll be able to trade her for an Aspen or someone else flashy, glossy and winter themed? Wish me luck! She is a super nice model that I wouldn't hate to keep . . . Another item that was due to arrive this afternoon was Nighthawk's new blanket: She officially fits into an 84" blanket now! Oh the possibilities! She was slightly less than thrilled to be modeling for me rather than eating at that particular moment though. So she reached down and bit the Schneiders tag off the front of the blanket and then spit it on the ground. There have been limited accomplishments in the studio but tonight looks mildly promising for this Clydesdale mare who's nearing completion for Emily. Also this PAS has all his customizing work done and he just needs some more simple prep (why didn't I do this in the summer?!) before he gets his final priming and paint job. I'm excited to show his new owner the tack friendly forelock solution I came up with! It appears as though there may be some snow on the way to the northeast. I guess we'll have to wait and see how that goes Sunday night into Monday. In the meantime, I'm meeting up with a Craigslist seller to look at some hay tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed it's a fair deal because there's nothing like having a full, FULL barn when the snow starts falling!

When everyone else in the house except me and the dog go to bed early- I finish stuff: When the girl goes to karate and I have 45 minutes to sit there and I don't play on my phone like all the other parents, but I don't watch her do karate either- I finish stuff: When the husband works 20 hours overtime kind of unexpectedly AND the girl and I have time to kill AND there happens to be a tack sale at a local barn- I buy stuff: Can you tell how utterly unimpressed Nora is with the day's haul? She was just entertained briefly by the fact that it was on HER chair. I got everything for only 30 bucks from various sellers on Saturday morning! I needed another tank heater since we just put the last one in the other night. The mares swear that you can NEVER have too many LikIts (even though some of these are expired- do they really even go bad? I don't think so!) Finally, for ten dollars I could NOT pass up the magenta shim-able half pad! This is a color I could have only dream of owning since I could never justify paying full price for another one (this makes 3 half pads and 1 purple dressage pad from E.C.P).
The girls and I are so happy with the "riches" we uncovered on Saturday! Thanks to Mountainside Stables and BJK Training for hosting! Can't wait for the next one! Have a great rest of the week folks- Tomorrow's Wednesday already- we can make it! Thursday morning I took to the yard because I knew rain was on the way. After feeding the girls breakfast and cleaning up out there, I blew leaves, moved mulch and dug around the chicken coop right up until it started to pour. I retreated inside just as Nighthawk decided to go back outside- into the cold fall downpour. The horse is strange, very pretty, but STRANGE! Then again, Cruise always used to stand out in the rain so maybe it's just something my horses do? Guin, on the other hand, was snuggled up inside the barn. At one point she was even laying down in the stall! She's no fool! Nora is pretty smart, too! She had the best seat in the house, I'd say! Having the woodstove going is making the "bed" command pretty easy to teach! The farrier came tonight for big mare's shoes and Guin's trim. They both had to do some work beforehand though. Big mare was thrilled . . . . . . and Guin, well she isn't really given the choice to protest but she managed to anyway! Then I ran the crap out of her on the lunge line. While big mare gnawed on the whip in the background- oh that horse! In the studio I have a CM Clydesdale mare in the process of becoming a bay roan for Emily, a PAS who's been waiting to have his forelock Dremeled off all summer and of of those pretty new classic cantering Arabians who is awaiting inspiration!
Pictures tomorrow with any luck! Happy Friday everyone! Upon visiting my local Breyer haunt prior to Halloween, I spotted this pretty new lady and I knew that I just HAD to paint her! The new mold is cute, nice and chunky but really lacks detail. That's fine for a classic horse, I guess, and I'm not sorry I played around with her. She just won't be one of my "go to" molds. Either way, this lady came out super cute with her flashy new paint job. She's got a fully mapped pattern and all the bells and whistles a paint horse pattern should have! She's on eBay now looking for a great new home! Go check her out! I'm hoping to work more on Voyeur tonight and tomorrow night. This daylight savings crap is killing me though! I'm hardly done out by the barn even with the lights on, before it's pitch black out there. . . ugh! And so starts winter in New Jersey! They're calling for possible snow on Friday!
Have a happy Tuesday! Yesterday we had ALL the stumps ground from inside the horse area! It is awesome in there now and my only regret is not having done it sooner! Incidentally, if you live in northern, NJ and need a GREAT stump guy- send me an e-mail! I've got a name for ya! Today we followed up that super fun time by spending the morning and first part of the afternoon doing firewood. Ugh . . . not my favorite. Anyway, after dinner I got to paint a little. Here's what I came up with: He's looking for a great new home! I just listed him on MH$P but I've never done a medallion before so I just totally guessed on my asking price. Let me know if I'm being ridiculous looking for 39.99 for him . . . be honest!
I also have Priscilla looking to prance away for the fall. I'll take my cost on her which was 25 bucks, I'm pretty sure. Hope everyone has a great start to their week! I'm hoping to spend some time painting on Thursday and Friday, at least, since we've got the days off to Teacher's Convention (that I've Never attended . . .) That Voyeur needs to be finished! |
