Have a great weekend everyone!
So, the back half of this month kind of blew up on me- even this weekend we've got girl scout cookie booth sales and then another event on Sunday afternoon. Luckily, I've still managed to get some painting and riding time in here and there! First I have to show you the newest Easter Egg horse who is currently listed on eBay. The other is a bay roan Classic TB that's going to live in Oregon soon! We got to take a day and go into the city with friends last weekend and headed straight to the Museum of Natural History to check out their new T Rex exhibit! Isn't baby T Rex cute? I'd TOTALLY bring one home- if only they stayed this adorable! We've also never left via the subway exit but somehow ended up doing it this time. Totally worth it though because there are Beautiful tile mosaics the whole walk up to street level! Next time I'll take pictures of the rest of them. This Andalusian stallion was super fun to paint over and his auction is ending tonight! Hoping to get a few more models painted this weekend but, if the weather's nice, Nighthawk and I are going to load up in the trailer and we're going somewhere instead!
Have a great weekend everyone!

It finally happened folks : I finished Teddy! He's up on the shelf wearing a Breyer blanket right now (lest he get dusty!) I can't wait to see how well he shows . . . whenever I actually get to a show. I tell you what, this horse is NOT particularly easy to photograph. There's lots of hair and weird angles going on with her. I'll have to look more closely at the Breyer photographs to get a feel for how to snap pics of her in the future!
Have a great night everyone! That freed up space for bigger spots that could be decorated in pastels and the likeness of some Easter eggs! I love doing these "just for fun" horses every now and then! I think I finished Teddy . . . I won't say for sure until I see him in daylight without these tired eyes I've got right now. I'm excited to give him another look tomorrow afternoon to confirm my claim! A St. Patrick's Day tradition lived on today as we tortured . . . I mean dressed up the horses in holiday attire. Nighthawk is only about a year into these shenanigans and yet she takes it like a champ. Guin, on the other hand, is a champion at flinging stuff OFF her head! It was a short photo session this afternoon because it was cold and windy, the girl and I got back later than I had planned from the firehouse St. Patty's Day get together, I had already ridden both of them for awhile and they were becoming more aware of the fact that their dinner time had passed.
Hope everyone had a safe and fun St. Patrick's Day! So, this happened today: This little lady was just waiting for me to figure out what to do with her and it FINALLY happened! She's super cute now and I just listed her on MH$P so head over and check her out! I think tomorrow I'll be starting on his sister (Amber- or is this one Amber?) either way, her standing sister is going to be even more "eggy" than she is! This little guy got completed, sealed and listed today as well. Thank goodness because those spots- Ahh! My eyes - Ahh! He was really fun to paint but I'm NOT signing up to tackle any more stablemates any time soon- I know I always say that! I, at least, won't do anymore 'til Teddy is done- remember him, the models I was supposed to paint in February?! Yeah, still not done.
Maybe if the big mare outside wasn't so darn love able these days I'd get more painting done! Yesterday I managed to get home and ride for a little while before the entire sky opened up and poured on us for hours. The lightning was so intense that I had my daughter and her little sleepover friend stay away from the windows. Although we did watch the storm come out the front of the house and then leave out the back which was pretty cool. I was shocked that we didn't lose power because it was windy as heck and we even got hail! There was some serious wash out today around the property and on the roads but at least there was also significant melting, too! So when I snagged a few of these models at the local Tractor Supply after Christmas, they sat in the closet for longer than I care to admit! When I realized what I had in there last week I knew I had to play around with at least 1 of them. This guy is the result! He's a paint over model but still super flashy. He sold on eBay last night and is getting ready to head off to his new home!
Now, what to do with the other Jasper model I have . . . Well, we didn't have a snow day on Monday, just a delayed opening. The roads were almost pristine despite about 9 inches of snow. Delays are great unless I have to spend 2 hours with this view before going to work! Don't get me wrong, I love plowing with our Bobcat, Caterina, but I'd rather not go to work wearing diesel fume fragrance. Without Monday as a "free day," Teddy was confined to late night work sessions only. This was a busy week so it was late night work sessions with somewhat bleary eyes! Ugh! Either way, he's coming along. Pastels are definitely NOT the way to go with all the hair texture on his coat so I'll have to go to Plan B to figure out how to grey him out (and I'll have to figure out what exactly Plan B IS!) Someone else who's coming along is this St. Patrick's Day Misty custom. She's a just for fun model that was looking for a new home when I realized I hadn't done anything for the upcoming holiday. Working on a few other models in the studio today. I might even have more pictures to list later this evening. 'til then . . .
Have a great Saturday everyone! Here is my, hands down, favorite purchase from the Expo: Yes, I drove 3.5 hours to buy a 7.00 rainbow leadline and I'm not sorry! Actually I also got Nighthawk a red nylon halter, 2 salt licks and a nice/cheap bridle bag. There is this trailer I wanted, too, maybe next year (Ha! Ha!) Anyway, this evening found me at the desk painting Teddy. Next to nothing for a month straight and then this happened: I swear he's not staying a black tobiano. I said he'd be grey for NaMoPaiMo and that's what he'll be. He's actually dark grey right now but I figure tomorrow I should have time to work on him with pastels to lighten and perhaps dapple him as well. I think I'll have time tomorrow because this . . . was a denim blue F-150 a few hours ago!
Keep warm, dry and safe everyone! So, I wish I could say that I completed my NaMoPaiMo horse but I got a little more than 10 minutes of pastel on her Thursday night and that's it. I could make a zillion excuses (the sculpting wasn't done on time, priming took forever, blah, blah, blah). I was sick for awhile and then there were a few nice days and he plain old wasn't a priority- oh well! We had our third snow day on Friday, which was kind of a shock because the roads seemed OK. I didn't mind one bit though because we had a girls night at the Horse World Expo in Harrisburg, PA! We loaded up Friday afternoon and drove out 'til we saw Cabela's. There we stretched our legs, wandered for too long and each bought around 20 bucks worth of candy! We proceeded to chow down for the rest of the ride and had *just* barely enough time to check into the hotel, change and get dinner before seeing the Theatre Equus show at the convention center. It was so cool, and my camera was acting up, so I had to steal some pictures from: https://www.horseworldexpo.com/theatre-equus/ to give you at least a taste. The craziest part was, for a Friday night show, the arena was barely half full. We couldn't believe it! If we were staying over on Saturday night we would've seen it again!
And then there was this lady with her big, pretty grey and a lot of tarp action- fascinating! I totally want to mess with Big Mare and do some of the stuff that she was demonstrating. That'll be a summer assignment because we're getting MORE snow tonight. After the show Friday we went back to the hotel and ate random snack and drank random Whiskey for a few hours before getting up Saturday and heading back to the expo. The first stop was to check out the Trail Horse Challenge which we all enjoyed last year. We saw some teams we recognized and some really pretty horses! Wish my camera had cooperated a little better (I think I have the settings wrong or something) Either way, here's what came out: It was a real pleasure to watch all the competitor again this year. There was a lot of "try" in that arena and some pretty good horsemanship skill, too! We can't wait to check it out next year!
Something else to check out is the website for Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue. I dropped off Nighthawk's blanket from last year with them for use on their rescue horses. They're a great group and they're always looking for donations! https://www.gentlegiantsdrafthorserescue.org/ |
