It's another rainy day after what seemed like a month of Sundays that were bone dry! I've been running around too much during in the day to get the barn stuff done so I've been heading outside after dinner until bedtime and getting the barn chores done then instead. The foggy, rainy weather coupled with the barn flood lights make for some dramatic shots (and also a lot of blurry ones). On the model horse front, I've got some medallions primed and ready for paintwork. I'm excited to start those tomorrow evening when they're totally dry. The big jumper is also getting some paint- he's getting spotted (don't even pretend your surprised!) He's coming out really cool and I can't wait to have pictures to share. On Sunday, my buddy and I took a drive down to Mane Stream in Oldwick, NJ to hit their twice annual used tack sale. We got there kind of late by their standards. It opens at 8 but people apparently line up around 7AM- um, no thank you! There were still some phenomenal deals to be had! Guin got a pretty lilac plaid dress sheet and this snazzy blue number will be shared between her and Apples: Can't you just FEEL how excited she is about it? I also got a Breyer Giselle and a Newsworthy for cheap so they'll be on the painting table soon. Another good deal was this fly mask and a lunging surcingle (not pictured). Again, the excitement is palpable with this one. I was just happy that my buddy handed it to me and it only cost a buck! Can't beat that! But that wasn't even the best score of the day: I got a Crosby English bridle and reins set for only 2 bucks! I've spent the last 2 nights outside oiling it to death but it actually fits big mare and looks amazing considering the price! Turns out the thing must be "over sized" because it's adjusted right in the middle and fits her great! I swapped a bit over from our dressage bridle and bought a new one for that. Easy, peasy schooling/trail bridle as soon as I'm done oiling and putting the thing back together. Now the bridle and saddle combination (not including the girth and pad) has cost me a whopping $82.00. I'm nothing if not a thrifty shopper! LOL Don't mind the lowsey cell phone photo . . . this was Casey while I was cleaning up along the other side of the barn. All the sudden I heard strangely loud footsteps and, when I walked through the barn an into the tackroom, this is what I saw. Not I know how well she backs down steps! When she returned to ground level, the first thing she tried to do was take another mouthful of that red mum on the ground along side the steps. In the end, she won and I fed her grain and got her out of my hair so I could finish working- horses!
In model horse news, I got 2 new molds over the weekend to "play" with: the new classic draft horse which is destined to be a winter style decorator, and the new Bristol jumper who is well on his way to being a super flashy appaloosa! Hopefully I'll have some pictures of them in the next few days! Have a great rest of the week everyone! It started with hitting a sale at the local Breyer store and snagging some good deals on OF models. I grabbed one of those new jumpers to "play" with and a cute little SM unicorn. I was able to finish his new paintjob AND that of another SM who's been sitting stale this afternoon. We got home in the pouring rain from our super fun morning. This morning, just after sunrise, I loaded up Guinivere and headed south. Check out the cool cloud we saw when we stopped for breakfast. There were two of them and I think it's a sundog. We picked up our buddies and their pony, Apples, before hitting the highway. . . yes, I drove on the highway with the trailer. It was OK though, I had my favorite sign shop, Riedel Sign Co., print me some custom vinyl letters: They sure look great on the front of the trailer! Anyway, we headed down to the Readington Trail Association Obstacle Challenge about a hour away. The location it was held was so beautiful with nice views of the mountains in fall colors and parking was easy, too! We made sure to get there in time to compete in the Halloween costume contest. Guinivere dressed up as the winner of an Ugly Sweater contest. She was awesome but she scared some of the other horses with all her bells and lights!
This is pretty much my favorite picture from the day- she was having a totally minor freak out moment but it looks like so much more in this screen shot! This has got Christmas card written all over it, am I right?! Casey stayed home but wasn't too thrilled about it at first. Husband said she calmed down after about a half an hour. The girls got out on Grassland for probably one of the last times of the year and I even got some nice pictures of them (before forgetting my camera out on the fence post and completely SOAKING it . . . ) It's still alive but I don't know why I'm so lucky to have it actually turn on! I poured water out of the battery compartment after I found it! Anyway, here are some of the shots I took: Have a great week everyone!
As per his new owner, some spiders were added to the webs on the Halloween Smarty Jones. I did them in dark grey, highlighted them in light grey and then glossed them! I'm pleased with how they came out and, naturally, they look much more "catchy" in person. I'm happy to have this guy headed to a new home for Halloween shortly! I finished up another Halloween horse today when it started to rain. This little cutie JUST went up on MH$P.
I'm still going through some of the pics from last Sunday's ride at Waywayanda. I love this one especially because I have a similar one of Cruise in almost the same spot- I'll have to find it one of these days and do a side by side. Clearly a pre-ride shot- you can tell by how she's not sweaty and still clean! I've been working on more beaded brow bands lately and have several available for purchase or trade for the right models/bodies: These are SO much fun to make but I just don't need to keep them all! Not to mention that the horse ones I beaded don't fit either of my mares. Hope someone can get good use out of them! I'm totally open to offers and trades for models on my wanted list or newer traditional sized bodies as well! In other model horse news, here are two that I just finished today! Both of the guys have been listed to Model Horse Sales Pages and Smary Jones has been cross posted to evilBay as well.
This afternoon also saw the harvest of the rest of the pumpkins and random stuff growing out in the front yard. I'm not sure what exactly I grew this year but I'm researching to find out. Many of them were l lost when they got mushy kind of out of the blue. Yes, I had them on boards and off the ground and it's not like they got too wet because it pretty much didn't rain for 5 weeks. I had a gourd get mushy when it was still hanging on the vine up in the Rose of Sharon tree, too! Anyone have similar issues with their pumpkins this year? I can't complain because I grew over 150 lbs of whatever these things are! |
