Yeah, those two things are sort of connected today. . . the girls got their teeth floated this morning. Here they are sleeping off the sedation: Big mare came out of it a little sooner than Guinivere did, mostly because they sedated her first and she's a bit of a cheaper date than the pony. Guiny, on the other hand, was still pretty with it during the procedure but really went to La, La Land when she was left alone in the stall. She was actually snoring little pony snores! In less than an hour they were both at the front gate begging for carrots (while I had the box fan blowing into the stalls to keep them cool, mind you!). While I kept watch on them out the window, I actually got some painting done! Here's #1 for the day. He's been listed on eBay already as a 10 day auction since we'll be away most of next week. With any luck I'll finish and get pictures of #2 for today before I go to bed!
So, today was pretty uneventful . . . we ran errands (JoAnn's for some yarn and white paint, Girl Scout store for patches, Post Office). We stopped at my favorite little Breyer retailer and I grabbed a Catch Me and that new Classic Arabian, both to CM. The corner studio is filling up fast and it's all my fault! I guess the only hiccup in the grand plan is that I won't be listing anything else, even if I finish it soon, 'til the middle of August since we're heading north for awhile. We've finally got all the loose ends tied up with the "new" horse trailer! New tires, greased bearings, new RV vent cover, blanket bar- all sort of good stuff! It's still parked out in front of the house and I'm not hating it in that spot. I'm just a little bit obsessed with organizing the tack room even though I still really have to vacuume the rug. . . Last Friday found us at the NJ Festival of Ballooning and what a great time that was! It was the first time in a few years that we've actually caught the mass ascension (weather has been an issue a few times in the past) It was fascinating! We ended our regular old Monday with a trip to Dairy Queen for dinner- in a Checker Cab our buddy is just finishing up building. He drives the cars a lot before delivery to make sure he's got all the bugs out for his clients. Tonight we drove back to the house with no headlights - put it on "the list" for tomorrow I guess! This car sure looks sharp in daylight! I'm hoping to have some plastic pony pictures for you tomorrow sometime after the backyard horses get dental work done.
Have a great night everyone! Keep cool! The day lily situation over here is getting crazy these days! These are some of the lilies that I . . . re-appropriated . . . we'll say, from my neighbor's house (while it was in foreclosure.) I was so glad to run into him while food shopping last summer so I could tell him I had them. He was taken back at how they were "rescued" from the new homeowners who just plowed over everything to make more parking. The best part is that they're all ready to split for whenever he's ready to garden again! Thanks, Dave! There were so many lily's that I decided to play around with them a little today! I guess it would've looked a little better if I had more grass and less weeds for a lawn- oh well! I love sending update photos for commission horses! Morgan and Betty heard from me tonight and Morgan's little resin girl will be ready to head "home" in another day or two with any luck! I'm having FAR too much fun doing tiny details on CCFF to let him go (besides my eyes aren't completely crossed doing his hair by hair work yet!) It's been a great couple of days working out in the sun room with all the windows and the back door open. Hope this weather sticks around just a little bit longer. Have a great rest of the week everyone!
I'm not sure I've ever felt compelled to write a review on anything before but these things are SO deserving! I was cruising through the prime day sales on HORZE something or other .com and needed to throw something else in my cart to get free shipping ($8.99 for shipping- NO! $24.99 for gloves - somehow YES!) Anyway, I'm not sorry because they're totally awesome! I was bored tonight and everyone else in the whole house was asleep but I heard the horses moving around outside, and the rain had slowed down, so I headed out back. I grabbed these and the new USG fly bonnet I bought but didn't need. Figured I'd do some grooming since it's been so nasty and hot lately. Big mare was the first to feel these and she made a zillion wacky faces: when I rubbed her forehead, poll, chest and she about lost her mind when I did her withers! She had her lipped flipped up and was rubbing her teeth on the corner of the stall door. Safe to say she LOVES these things! Then it was on to Guinivere who is usually not a fan of being groomed and pampered. I pulled off her fly sheet and she actually leaned into me when I was rubbing her down- even when I was grooming her legs (that was a little weird) so I'm pretty sure she's a fan, too! Did I mention that she stopped eating and just stood there the whole time I was messing with her? I'd give these things a 10/10 so far! They might become my go to gift for horsey friends, too. Mine aren't as pretty as these- they're just plain black. They're very professional looking but I'd take red or purple accents on pretty much anything, any day! Maybe if/when I wear out my first pair I'll be able to snag a purple one next!
On the studio front: Today we painted scallop shells on the back porch in all sorts of fun colors and I added some pencil roaning and hair by hair detail to Cat Creek Fleet Feet. He's going to be a tough one to send on his way when he's done! Also, Lemme At Em is prepped and primed! I hope to get some painting done on her tomorrow! Have a great night everyone! Here's what's in the studio this weekend . . . Cat Creek Fleet Feet is nearing completion and the Lemme At Em resin has just arrived!
There's been a miserable mist coming down most of the day which has made rock wall building less than desirable. I've been inside chipping away at some curriculum work and EMT recertification classes online. The really good news is that the pictures taken at the obstacle challenge were posted yesterday! Here are some shots from the trail challenge:
Sunday was a beautiful day and Nighthawk and I had a wonderful time at Quiet Creek Farm's Obstacle Challenge! Here we are speaking with Galinda and the cowardly lion! I'm hoping to have more great photos later in the week. That's kind of a bonus of showing there, they have photographers everywhere! We placed miserably in both divisions (trail and arena) but we still had an awesome day out and I was super proud of how adventurous and brave the big mare was. There was so much "try" in her this Sunday. That's really all that matters! (as opposed to last Sunday where she bucked at a bug and I flew off! LOL!) We ended up riding more than an hour all alone and it just might've been my favorite part of the day- there's nothing like being out in the middle of who knows where- just you and the horse. Wonderful! More news: I bought a new to me horse trailer! Funny thing, it's actually a 2006 like my Valley trailer but it's a slant load Sundowner! Yeah, a Sundowner! It's parked out front now, on blocks because the hubby is doing the bearings and I got new tires today and stuff. I still can't believe it's mine! Now to sell the Valley- if you know anyone in the market for a nicely maintained 14 foot stock trailer with tack room send 'em my way! Tomorrow the puppy is having a play date with a golden retriever named Sunny. She's one of my student's dogs that I haven't seen in a month or so and we're super excited to have her over! I probably won't make Nora wear socks like I did the other day . . . After our play date I'm going to be working on rebuilding the rock wall the town took down almost 2 years ago. Also, if we end up getting a day or two of rain from that darn hurricane like they say we might, I'll actually get to paint a model horse! Wow!
Have a great night everyone! Good thing I got outside and hit my To Do List hard this morning (got hay, unloaded hay, stacked hay, got pools for horses, filled pools for horses, etc.) because it turned to rain way earlier than I expected. The big mare was NOT amused! Right before it started to rain I was in the shed looking for a drill bit when I saw one of our little resident baby birds doing some flying practice between the trusses! To make a long story short- they were hatched in my daughter's quad helmet (it was probably too small for her anyway!) It certainly was a nice, cozy spot! They're out now though as you can see by the photo on the left. The guy in the right is either mom or dad who was calling the baby nonstop. I decided to grab the drill bit tomorrow and leave them all alone. After it started to rain, this happened! He's all done and looking for a new home. I'll probably get his ad up tomorrow. Yes, it's the Gigi resin but it's now a he. I'm also just throwing this gal out into the spotlight tonight as well. She's been resculpted and primed which means she's just looking for inspiration to strike with a fun color or pattern for her to wear. Any ideas? Want to commission her in a certain color? Want me to mail her to someone else to paint? I'm OK with that, too!
Shoot me an e-mail with ideas and/or offers! The Monarda are in full crazy bloom- like "Alien" style flowers busting forth from other flowers- kinda freaky but the hummingbirds sure to love them! You can see the Coneflowers are in various stages of blooming and many of the lillies are going nuts as well. My favorites are just about to pop! I'm checking on them every day and spraying Liquid Fence on and around them so the dang deer don't nip the buds off (it's happened!) In the super hot weather I've been working at night on a few models. First of all, I decided the portrait model of Eugene, that rescue we took on a few years ago, wasn't my favorite and I was itching to paint over the cute little Gigi resin again- so i did! He is going to be a palomino leopard appaloosa soon enough. I'll snap some pictures later or tomorrow when he actually starts to look like something! In the meantime, here's something: He's supposed to just be a cute, chunky, grade draft cross or something. I LOVE the way he came out! Let me know if he should join your stable- I'll be listing on MH$P tonight probably! This one is a commission piece for a buddy of mine who's got a small herd of my horses already (She seems to get a bunch of my favorites! I've even purchased or traded for a few to come back to me!) This guy just needs some more shading and detail work and he'll be on his way to Michigan!
More coming later with any luck! Have a great afternoon everyone and SAFE TRAVELS if you're Breyerfest Bound! (or going to Florida or somewhere else fun! ;0) |
