After a long day of nothing but rain and wind with random seconds of sunshine mixed in, there are few nicer things than this. The mares hanging out inside clean stalls while they were drying off and eating their dinner. These were two dirty, happy horses! Later on, Nighthawk was deeply disturbed by balloons my daughter brought out into the back yard. She stared- she walked toward them, lifted her head, snorted, stared more, trotted toward them, snorted again, stared intently and then proceeded to plant herself and stare them down from the gate. They were about 50 feet away in the back yard, mind you, but she was taking their presence VERY seriously. I had my daughter bring the balloons out with a carrot and it wasn't long before all was good and right in the world. I wrapped up the night with several more base layers on this Shire. He's not sure if he's going to be a bay, a bay roan or a silver bay . . .but either way the base coat is roughly the same. Hopefully I'll have more time to work on him tomorrow when the weather's much better!
