The next item on the agenda was moving around some hay. We have 50 bales coming on Tuesday and the loft is still nearly full of various cuts from last year. I was fortunate to go into winter with more than enough to get me through and for that I am thankful. Now, however, I have to make sure that the older hay does not continue to get older! I knew there was a paper wasp nest on the back door of the loft so I was steering clear of that already, but, as I pulled hay off the stacked row closest to the front loft door I was met with ANOTHER next. This one was the size of a large slice of pizza and half built into the bale I pulled out. I promptly chucked that buzzing sucker out the back door, past the other nest and then ducked down the stairs. I HATE getting stung but managed to avoid it . . . this time. The hubby knocked down one nest this afternoon and we sprayed the front one tonight. Hopefully it'll be an easy solution to the wasp problem- fingers crossed!
The water trough needed a good scrubbing today so I took care of that, too. We've had things living underneath in the past but this year we seem to have a resident toad who's taken to digging himself down into the dirt under the trough. Special care is taken to make him hop his fat warty self out of the way so that I can safely put the trough back into place after I scrub it out. This time I tipped the trough over and found that he had a friend!
